In December of 2006, I was asked to design a sculpture that would provide shade to this pool side location in Rumson, New Jersey. After many sketches, I decided that what the site really needed was a few trees and began sketching my final proposal for the project. Using Cinema 4D I was able to render a full-scale model and superimpose the sculpture over a digital image of the site. The owners were ecstatic and in early 2007 I was given the approval to begin building the sculpture. Six months later I found myself back at the site in New Jersey and the installation was complete after a long three weeks there. Revision is a redesign and replacement for trees. The word revision relates to the act of seeing, which is a strong element of this sculpture as the glass canopy acts as a layer of lenses that capture and transform light. The vivid light creates a relaxing environment and simulates the feeling of immersion that is experienced in the pool. Revision represents a new direction in my work, an exploration of the phenomenon of sculpture as architecture and as a space of experience. Revision is a significant for me because it exists from afar as an aesthetic form and also a transformative space that can be physically entered.
